Hurricane Irma was brutal for SAFE, our precious animals, our staff, and our wonderful volunteers.
Our animals, staff and volunteers are SAFE, and that is what matters most.
Now the storm is over and we must move ahead . There are animals who are depending on us to get back to work quickly.
Twenty-five dogs left for transport this morning to 2 rescue partners in South Carolina who offered to help us out.
WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP FROM THE COMMUNITY.
Mass Evacuations, thrift store closures, and a halt in adoptions mean no income combined with extra costs. This is typically a tough time of the year for our rescue financially, even without all the additional expenses.
We have plenty of food and water.
Volunteer
Volunteers are welcome at Treasure Beach to take dogs for walks , or out back to the pools.
Volunteers are needed at the Palatka Thrift store in the morning and afternoon to help clean after kitties who are there until the headquarters is repaired and has power restored.
Someone or a business to sponsor the adoption fees for the lifesaving hero hurricane fosters so that they have the option to keep the animals they stepped forward to save at no cost to them!!!
Shop
The SAFE Resale Store at 1250 CR A1A has no power but is open for limited hours (12-5 on 9/14) for CASH sales in hopes of raising some much needed funds. Donations are gratefully accepted here and very appreciated as well!
If you can help please text 904-325-0196 or 386-983-2337.
Cerebello-Vestibular Syndrome? No problem for Hugo! Hugo’s exam by a veterinary neurologist revealed good news!
– His problem is from damage to the part of his brain that controls balance.
– It appears to be long standing, maybe even from birth.
– It is not contagious and is not likely to get worse.
– The condition doesn’t cause Hugo distress.
– His “prancing and head bobbing” are expressions of excitement not unlike other dogs jumping up on the kennel gate.
In the words of the vet: “He is adorable and adoptable.” SAFE staff and volunteers agree!
He is medium sized , very good natured and happy to be alive !!!

Saving Animals From Euthanasia (SAFE) has teamed up with First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP) to begin the SAFE Neuter commuter once again!
It is the hope of both organizations that one day there will be no need for the euthanasia of healthy animals. To achieve this goal, all animals in our communities must be spayed/neutered.
To celebrate this effort, both organizations have generously donated $2,000 each for the Putnam community to have 50 feline spays/neuters and 40 canine spays/neuters at no charge to their owners. That’s right – the surgeries will be FREE!
50 Free Feline Spay /neuter surgeries will be offered on January 22.
15 Free canine spays/neuters will be offered on each of the following days: January 29, February 5, and February 12, 2016.
After that, FCNMHP will keep the prices low for the Putnam SAFE neuter commuter transports. The cost will be only $40 for cats and $50 for dogs. SAFE will provide transportation to/from FCNMHP in Jacksonville.
Rabies vaccines must be paid by owner and cost $15.
Information and sign-up for surgeries will begin Monday , January 18, at the SAFE Putnam Resale Store; the $15 payment for rabies vaccine must be made at that time unless proof of rabies vaccinations are provided. The Resale Store is located at 819 S Moody Rd. in Palatka.
For the January 22 cat spay/neuter day, all cats must be in separate carrier with owner’s name on the outside. Cats must arrive at the SAFE Resale store between 7:00-7:45am on surgery day. Feral cats must be in trap; one cat per trap. No food after midnight the night before.
PLEASE NOTE – THERE IS ONLY ROOM FOR 50 CATS ON THIS DAY .
PRE-REGISTRATION IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED TO GUARANTEE A SPOT .
Questions can be submitted by email to Rnordan_se1@comcast.net OR TEXT TO 904-325-0196 .
